200.000 Italian songs released between 1900 and 2000 are now online for free, together with one hundred thematic playlists and further information in eight different languages. An “encyclopedia” dedicated to all enthusiasts of Italian music, who will be able to find their favorite songs and artists. The new website canzoneitaliana.it was created to promote this vital part of Italian culture. It is a precious resource especially for those looking for old songs that are difficult to find otherwise.
One of the key points of the project is the collection of thematic playlists, such as those focused on traditional music of each region, war songs from the beginning of last century, kids songs, Italian rock music and the songs from the Festival di Sanremo.
A good way to discover Italian music and to make it known to a multi-generational and international audience.
The project was realized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the SIAE, the FIMI and various associations of independent producers, as well as writers, actors, musicians, experts, and private collectors. Italian musicologist Paolo Prato is the conceiver of the project and wrote most of the texts.
Canzoneitaliana.it is constituted by thousands of tracks from the collections of the Central Institute for Sound and Audiovisual Heritage which are gradually made available in collaboration with several public and private sound archives. The catalog will be updated with 5.000 new songs every week.
